 It’s that time of the year again to eat those smelly and spicy foods from home! You are cordially invited to the KUT celebration 2010, which will be held at St. Mary’s Church Hall, 62 Greenford Avenue, Hanwell, London W7 3QP, on the 28th August 2010. Proceedings will start from 4pm which will last till 9pm. The first half of the programme will be ‘Thanks-Giving’ and the other half – Celebration!
In the UK, KUT has been celebrated every year since 1998. However, unlike in the past, especially closer to home, where this occasion was merely and essentially about giving thanks for the abundant harvest; we, here in the UK regard this opportunity to celebrate that, in addition to strengthening the bond we the people from North-east India share, as well as the celebration of each individual’s achievement( s) in all walks of life.

In solidarity, AMWJU to cease work today

IMPHAL, Jul 21: An emer-gency meeting of the stan- ding committee of All Mani-pur Working Journalists’ Union (AMWJU) which was held in the evening today has strongly con-demned the intrusion and threats by armed persons who identified themselves as HPC(D) cadres at the residence of S Singlianmang Guite, correspondent of The Sangai Express, at around 11.45 am today, as infringement on the free-dom of media.
The Ukhrul District Journalists Union has also strongly condemned the threats issued against Guite by the armed persons.
Chaired by AMWJU president Khogendra Khomdram, the meeting resolved to show solidarity and support the demands that have been put forward by Manipur Hill Journalist Union in connection with the incident. Accordingly, it was decided that in support of the cease work strike being launched by the Manipur Hill Journalists’ Union, AMWJU will suspend normal duty and staged a sit-in-protest at Keishampat from 10 am to 5 pm tomorrow.
On account of the proposed sit-in-protest de- monstration, no newspapers will hit the news stands on July 23 and there would be no news telecast by ISTV. With exception to AIR reviewer, no AMWJU member would also cover the ongoing Assembly session tomorrow.
